  1. We use caller ID services to identify calls are coming from known parent/guardian phone numbers.

  2. Automated attendance calls will still be made to parent/guardian phone numbers on file.

  3. Please include all information listed below in your text message.

 

REPORTING AN ABSENCE

It is required that ALL absences be verified. To report an absence call Melissa Chuidian. If you receive a voicemail, please leave a message, speak clearly, and include the following: 

  • Your name and relation to student 

  • Student’s name 

  • The reason for their absence

  • Date(s) of absence

If a student’s absence has not been verified our automated system will call indicating your student was absent for one or more classes. If your student is tardy 30 minutes or more it is considered an unexcused absence.

Short-term Independent Study (IS)

Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan family trips and vacations outside of the school year.  A warranted absence shall be excused if the absence is requested prior to the absence and is approved by a school administrator. 

If you are planning a vacation and/or your student will be missing 5 to 15 days of school, please contact Kellie Wood, Counseling Secretary, for information regarding Short-Term Independent Study (IS).

If proper notice is not given, the request for Short-Term IS can be denied.

The Short-Term Independent Study Contract needs to be completed preferably two weeks prior to the absence. A Short-Term IS Contract is available from our Counseling Secretary, Kellie Wood. 

STEPS FOR SHORT-TERM INDEPENDENT STUDY

To receive credit for absences, please follow the following steps:

STEP #1 – BEFORE DEPARTURE

  • Two-week advance notice of upcoming absence is required.
  • The contract below is available through our Counseling Secretary and must be fully completed including collecting all teacher signatures in order to receive credit for the absences.
  • Three-day minimum absence and 15-days maximum allowed per school year.
  • Short-term Independent Study is not available for absences May 1 -June 6, 2025 (one month prior to the end of school).

STEP #2 – Return the completed Short Term Independent Study Contract (with ALL Teacher Signatures) to Kellie Wood, Counseling Secretary at least two days before the departure. 

STEP #3  – WITHIN 5 days of your return to school

The student must use the YELLOW copy of the contract to gather % completion of homework and teacher signatures. The yellow copy must be returned to Kellie Wood, Counseling Secretary, to receive credit for the absence.
