WUSD Celebrates Lisa Hadley Hill at Sonoma County’s Teacher of The Month

PRESS RELEASE

Windsor, Calif. — The Windsor Unified School District is pleased to announce that Windsor High School teacher Lisa Hadley Hill has been named as Sonoma County’s Teacher of the Month by the Sonoma County Office of Education.

What makes this award unique is that it’s based not only on the number of nominations a teacher receives, but on the quality of the teaching as reflected in their work. This means Hadley Hill is being recognized not only by a significant number of her students, peers and community, but also having her skills as an educator celebrated.

Hadley Hill currently teaches AP Biology, Foundations of Physical and Earth science and serves as part of the AVID program at WHS. She has been teaching in Sonoma County since 1995, and all of those years but the first have been as part of Windsor.

“I am speechless,” said Hadley Hill. “I am just one teacher in a district full of dedicated, innovative teachers who give their all (and then some more) every day. My true reward is when I see those student 'lightbulbs' go on over their heads and I hear the 'OOOOhhhhs and AAAAhhhs' of 'I got it.’

“We have all worked so hard these last few years to learn new teaching techniques through Zoom class and are now back in a clearly different classroom post-COVID. It feels good to be acknowledged because this work is hard but the students are worth it,” she concluded.

“Lisa has been the backbone of our WHS science department for years,” said Director of Human Resources Pete Sullivan. “While it’s not surprising she would be celebrated in this way, it’s always gratifying to have someone’s skills rewarded.”

“Our teachers are the lifeblood of this District,” said Superintendent Jeremy Decker. “We know they are awesome, and so when someone outside the District knows it too, and calls out their excellence, it becomes like a rising tide lifting all boats. We congratulate Lisa on this fantastic accomplishment.”

Hadley Hill was surprised at a staff meeting by representatives from the Sonoma County Office of Education and presented with a plaque in recognition of this award and $500 school supply gift card. On hand to celebrate with her were Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Brian Williams and WHS Principal Danielle Buckman. She will also be featured on local radio station Froggy 92.9 FM.
