WHS New Tardy Policy & Attendance Reminders - effective Monday, February 5

Dear WHS Families and Students - 


WHS believes that good attendance and on-time arrival to school are vital parts of successful learning. Arriving on time is a student's responsibility, with their parent’s help, of course. 


Definition of tardy: You are tardy if you are not in your seat ready to work when the bell rings. 

Effective, Monday, Feb. 5 - Multiple unexcused tardies will earn students a Wednesday Detention and/or Saturday School. WHS’s goal is to encourage more on-time arrivals and increase our students' educational minutes.   


  • Students will NO LONGER stop at the office for a late pass. Teachers will mark the student tardy-unexcused, as applicable.

  • For any student late due to an appointment (with proof from the provider), please come to the front office FIRST to get an excused tardy pass.

Unexcused tardies during the school year will incur the following consequences: 

  • 1-4 Unexcused tardies are considered a warning.

  • A 5th Unexcused tardy will result in a Wednesday Morning Detention (8:30am to 9:15am)

  • Any unexcused tardies between 6-10 will result in a Saturday School (8:30am - 12:30pm)

  • After Saturday School, it resets back to zero tardies and the process above begins again. 


Students and parents will be notified via an email letter that  Wednesday detention or Saturday School has been assigned to the student. A hard copy letter will be sent to the student’s class.


No-shows to detention or Saturday school will be referred to the Principal’s Office.

  • Unexcused absences must be cleared within 5 days of the absence.

  • Does your student have an appointment and need to leave school early? 

    • Please request a pass no later than 9am - you can also request a pass the day beforeExcept for an emergency, please do not leave a message or call to ask for your student to be excused or be picked up or excused immediately. This disrupts teachers and other students in their class. Please text or call the attendance line by 9am before your student needs to be picked up. Requests received after 12pm will now require a parent to come to the front office and wait for their student to be called to the front office. This process can take up to 15 minutes, please be advised. We apologize for the inconvenience but too many parents are forgetting to notify attendance with plenty of notice.  Thank you for your understanding.
