Dear WHS Families & Students

Windsor High School, in partnership with Windsor Police and local emergency services, will be producing a two-day event Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17 called “Every-15-Minutes” - the title of this statewide program comes from the statistic that Every-15-Minutes someone is killed in an alcohol-related accident.

The Program is an effort to challenge teenagers to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions. Every-15-Minutes includes two school-wide assemblies that will take place during 2A on April 16 and 6B on April 17. (See Special Event Bell Schedule). The Tuesday assembly will be an alcohol-related car crash simulation (in front of the school - road will be closed to through traffic) followed by a second assembly the next day that will be a pretend memorial service (in the large gym) for the accident victims.

Although the Every 15 Minutes program is only a simulation, the emotional impact of its message is real and will be felt long after the event is over. Please be aware, the event will be loud with sirens and even a helicopter landing at the fire station across the street. This event may be triggering for some students.

A student can choose to NOT participate in this event

Even though all the planned events are not real, parents and/or students may choose to not participate in  either of the two school-wide assemblies. Please use the link below if you do not want your student to participate in this two-day event -- the WHS Counseling Center has been a designated work space for students who choose not to attend the Every-15-Minute program. If you need to make off-campus arrangements for your student, please contact the attendance office.

Community Effort - Thank you

Producing Every-15-Minutes is no small task. Since early October 2023, WHS staff and our School Resource Officer, JP Tamayo, have been bringing together local agencies to stage this event (i.e., California Highway Patrol, local law enforcement, local hospitals, emergency medical responders, and others). We are thankful for many community service groups who helped move the project forward through participation and generous donations.

It is our hope that the Every-15-Minutes program brings a heightened awareness to students of the dangers related to any form of impaired or distracted driving.

Sincerely,

Danielle Buckman
